This photograph originates from the estate collection of Miss Gladys Sylvia, a dedicated Hollywood memorabilia collector who acquired photos directly from celebrities and studios. Historical Notes At the time this photograph was taken, Olivia de Havilland was one of Warner Bros. Biggest stars, appearing in beloved films like The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) opposite Errol Flynn. However, she was deeply unhappy with the studio system’s control over her career. In 1943, she filed a landmark lawsuit against Warner Bros. Challenging the practice of extending contracts as punishment for refusing roles. Her victory in the 1944 California Court of Appeal case – known as the De Havilland Law – fundamentally changed Hollywood labor practices and freed actors from indefinite studio servitude.
