Here is a MEGA RARE vintage album from my collection offered up for sale: ” The Grateful Dead ” their debut first album, released in 1967 by Warner Brothers Records W-1689 (MONO), this is an original first pressing with the heavy vinyl and gold “Monaural” labels, cover is still in shrink wrap, still has original WB inner sleeve. Features the mono sound mix, different than the more common Stereo version! Most folks had gone to stereo by 1967 so production numbers on these monaural discs were VERY LOW, plus this one with cover still in shrink it’s a Grateful Dead “holy grail” collectable! Matrix side 1 9233 1A W 1689A and 9234 1A W 1689B. The vinyl rates strong VG+, is super clean and glossy, has some light marks on each side, nothing heavy or feel-able. PLAY TESTED, this album plays excellent from start to finish! The paper inner sleeve is clean, one center split neatly taped. The cover rates NEAR MINT, the shrink is clean and still completely intact on all three sides, cover has bright colors, no ring wear, no splits, no tape, binder edge EX & readable, no cut-outs or drill holes, no signatures or writing, has only a bit of age discoloration on back at opening, looks minimally handled, a well cared holy grail jacket!! 3 ml plastic sleeve in a record box with tracking. This is one of the most rarest kiss records of all time. This is their 1974 first release on Warner Bros. This was sent out to radio stations which resulted in their popularity today. The condition on the vinyl looks really good (vg to vg+) and clean just superficial light scuffs, and the label is vg+ no writings or marks, look at the photos and decide. The cover would be graded in my opinion a vg, most obvious the promo stick is beautiful and bright, also the cover has a nice sheen shine and very light ring wear on both sides, but the opening seems to be separating just a little(see photo), wanted to mention that. The spine is intact with no tears just light scratches as you can see. For any other information on grading just message me and I can send additional photos and will respond quickly. This record is over 45 yrs old, not bad. Also the song “kissin time” is not on this record. Don’t miss this opportunity on this record which started one of the greatest bands of all time. Here’s a great record from 1967. It was recorded in just 4 days. This was the first Grateful Dead LP, and these original STEREO/GOLD LABEL pressings are very rare. When this LP was released, The Dead were not the huge band that they would become. They were just starting to headline shows, mostly around San Fransisco. This particular LP is an amazing copy. The cover as good as you can expect to find these days. It’s still in shrink with a cover sticker that must indicate a price structure in a store. The spine is perfect and there are no seam splits. There is a small cut to the paper on the bottom left seam, exposing the cardboard. There is very minimal cover rubbing on the bottom, but hardly a distraction for an LP that is extremely hard to find in such condition. The original inner is perfect. The first song on the LP is THE GOLDEN ROAD TO UNLIMITED DEVOTION, which would essentially define what would be called DEADHEADS, and create the jamband culture. It was the only song the band wrote for this LP. Garcia also wrote Cream Puff War, which was a take on something by LOVE or THE 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS. However, it’s Jerry’s blistering guitar work on this song that showed the world at the time what kind of talent was just breaking through. The LP itself plays perfectly with no pops, skips or jumps at all. There is minor background noise in places but way below the music. The vinyl looks shiny and with a few hairlines, and with stampers that end in 1A/1A. The labels are super clean. It’s a piece of history. I love original original pressings because I feel every LP is of it’s time and place. The vinyl, and record pressings are all from that moment in time, and no re-pressing or re-mastering will ever make the sound better for me.
