Here is a MEGA RARE vintage album from my collection offered up for sale: ” The Grateful Dead ” their debut first album, released in 1967 by Warner Brothers Records W-1689 (MONO), this is an original first pressing with the heavy vinyl and gold “Monaural” labels, cover is still in shrink wrap, still has original WB inner sleeve. Features the mono sound mix, different than the more common Stereo version! Most folks had gone to stereo by 1967 so production numbers on these monaural discs were VERY LOW, plus this one with cover still in shrink it’s a Grateful Dead “holy grail” collectable! Matrix side 1 9233 1A W 1689A and 9234 1A W 1689B. The vinyl rates strong VG+, is super clean and glossy, has some light marks on each side, nothing heavy or feel-able. PLAY TESTED, this album plays excellent from start to finish! The paper inner sleeve is clean, one center split neatly taped. The cover rates NEAR MINT, the shrink is clean and still completely intact on all three sides, cover has bright colors, no ring wear, no splits, no tape, binder edge EX & readable, no cut-outs or drill holes, no signatures or writing, has only a bit of age discoloration on back at opening, looks minimally handled, a well cared holy grail jacket!! 3 ml plastic sleeve in a record box with tracking. (BS 2562) in 1971. Guaranteed original corrected pressing. Original olive green WB labels. Artisan mastering symbols in both deadwax. Does not mention “including The Elegy” beside “After Forever” on the label Side 1, Track 2. Still in opened factory shrink wrap. Original WB inner sleeve. Vinyl comes in audiophile archival sleeve. No UPC/bar code on cover. Pressings have the Artisan mastering symbol in the deadwax on BOTH sides–many copies have it on only one side. It looks like a little square with antennae sticking out of it, like an old t. Needless to say, most copies of this album that come up for sale are thrashed, and there are very few true survivors still in the original shrink wrap with clean vinyl like this one. Also, the poster is beautiful–no pinholes or tape marks, never been hung on a wall. This copy is exceptional–not perfect, but better than 95% of them. Cover looks very nice, still protected by original opened shrink wrap. No ring wear or seam splits. Just light rubbing to the corners on the open end–and a little wear to that edge. Shrink wrap has the original factory breathe holes–showing it’s never been resealed. Overall, a very nice original cover. Vinyl is also in very nice condition, still has its original shine. Very clean overall, but under a strong light, it does show a few very light superficial hairlines and tiny marks that cannot be felt, nor should they affect the quality of the playback. Otherwise, the vinyl looks clean. Side One label has previous ower’s name written on it, but no wear around the spindle holes. Looks like this record has been played only a few times at most but handled with care. I’ve spot tested this record, and the sound quality is excellent, just some light pressing noise on the run-in grooves, but once the music kicks in, it disappears–clean and clear, full bodied fidelity.
